Emergency help as a single parent

Hi, I'm a single parent to three dc's. Yesterday I broke my ankle and I live in quite a remote area in the countryside and I have to get my kids to school. I'm recently on benefits since separating and have not other support nearby. I have asked friends to help with the school run buy many work full time and I haven't managed to find a satisfactory arrangement. I can't afford the cost of taxis to get the kids to school.

Are there any charities or schemes to help people in my situation? Like local help and maybe a grant to pay for transport? Or help around the house with chores?

Gosh, how difficult for you. Could you ask the school for help?

I would also recommend asking the school

I don't know the answer either but would contact the school and post on chat forum ..

Your situation won't be unique

Hope you are not in too much pain

Homestart and gingerbread spring to mind not necessarily as people that can help with the latter but who may know who can.

Social services may know or be able to provide temporary support.

If you are in a rural area, check your parish magazine. All the villages around here have a community help board which helps people who need lifts to hospital etc find helpers. They would help with school runs while you are in plaster.

Ask the school for help and explain the situation

I would ask the school and also see if the school’s PTA has a fb page? You could post a message asking for help with pick ups/ drop offs, you might find someone nearby who offers to take them.

How long until you can drive?

Our school would collect in a minibus.

Call Red Cross, they shoukd have volunteers. Have you got crutches?
