Joint claim tax credit letter received ...

I don't live with dp, he stays maybe 4nights a week and doesn't contribute financially. We are moving in together in May and the solicitor has my name as someone moving to that house with him.

Would that have triggered it? Do I need to contact them? I can prove that he pays nothing but does for his house.

That's strange. Me and DP did exactly the same (house bought in his name, me on the form as an over 18 moving there) but tax credits didn't change until the day I moved in, rang them and cancelled my single claim?

I don’t think the solicitor wouldhave informed them. The only thing I can think of is someone else has reported you. As far as I’m aware the tax credit office would consider you already living together if he stays 4 nights a week

I didn't think there were was a limit if he doesn't contribute and owns his own house?

I phoned them. They sent the letter to loads of people as a general reminder! Apparently they've had a lot of calls today!

A general reminder of what?!

To let them know if you need to change your circumstances. It did list what is classed as being in a couple and said if no change to ignore.

I had one too and nobody older than my oldest child has stayed the night here since he left. 3 years ago I proved I was single after been contacted by Concentrix (ended up with no money for 3 months!) so wasn't impressed.

HMRC use credit reference agency Experian to check any apparent undeclared partners. Therefore, if you have any links to the house that could be picked up by Experian, it will prompt an 'undeclared partner' status on your claim. I would advise you to get in touch with your MP who can ask for Subject Access Request on all files relating to their findings. MPs usually get a quicker response as they have a hotline to HMRC not available to applicants which are afforded priority.
