What to tell DD4 about Mummy and Daddy seperating

Need some advice. My husband has told me that are marriage is over (married 7 years). Neither of us can move out until house sold. He insists we sleep in sep rooms, and that we should explain to our daughter imediately whats going to happen ???

Given our house has been up for sale for 15 months, the living situation could continue.

I don't think we should tell her - what do you think?

It's tricky, isn't it, because you don't want it to come as a huge shock, but neither do you want to drag out the misery.

I'd suggest leaving it till you agree a sale. There'll then be about 6 to 8 weeks before you actually separate for her to adjust to the idea.

Are you sure you have to sell the house? If you're married it may be possible for the house to be transferred to you (if you can pay the mortgage out of salary&taxcredits or benefits plus of course child maintenance, spousal maintenance, lone parent benefit, child ben. etc)

Often a house is transferred to the wife on the basis that at a later date it will be sold and the husband will receive a slice of the equity.

You should probably be talking to a divorce lawyer before going ahead with a sale.

I would not be able to afford the house, too big for just DD and I.

Just don't want to have these sorts of conversations with her now.
