parental responsibility?

Hi there all, Have finally got partner to move out!! Am Freee! (He was impossible to live with, on The Rocks I'm sorry to say..)
His solicitor said he should get parental responsibility for older ones born before it became automatic- should I give it to him??

sorry i don't understand. if your partner was on the birth certificate he gets parental responsibility doesn't he? if he's not on the birth certificate then he doesn't get it automatically but he can apply for it and in most cases it will be granted.

Even if he was on the birth certificate, as long as this was before the law changed - he doesn't automatically get PR. Don't give it to him if you don't want to. It's not 'automatic' that he'd get it anyway - depends on circumstances.

oh right didn't read op properly. i see now you are only talking about the older ones where it wasn't automatic.

it isn't automatic, my dp biological father down not have reposnsibilty for her, but you do need valid reasons for this more than just being a nightmare.

basically he has to apply for PR through the court and it is very unlikely that he won't get it. if you agree for him to have PR he will apply through the court who will give it him as there was a consent order. if you don't give consent he can apply through the court and get it by court order. only in extreme circumstances will the courts not give it.

Thanks everyone, I guess I should just sign the bit of paper then..! Just wasn't sure what the implications might be.. Still aren't. I will report back when I know more & I've read the link surfermum gives. I don't see much problem with giving him this legal right without fuss so far, he isn't a nightmare to them, just to me !? I wonder , I suppose if he would have a right to tell me not to move to another city in the U.K. for eg.

if he has parental responsibility then he can have some input in where the children live, he can also have input in any medical decisions and can obtain copies of school reports
