Advice for moving back to the mainland- single parent, no ties

Hiya! I'm in desperate need for help and advice!
I used to be in Essex with my partner. We private rented a flat. When we split he promised me he'd move out and myself and our little girl could have the flat- my landlords agreed that I could get help from housing benefit etc and everything seemed okay.
After months and months, I gave him an ultimatum that he needed to leave or is stay on the Isle of Wight with my family. Long story short he didn't leave and I ended up packing up all my stuff and moving to the IOW. Fast forward a year and I'll still desperate to move back to London or Essex.
I can't private rent because my ex has left me thousands of pounds in debt so my credit score is gone.
The area I lived in Essex have recently changed their housing rules so you have to live there for 6 years, whereas I was only there 2 years.
I did live in another area of Essex before hand for most of my life but I haven't lived there for 5/6 years now so technically I've got no ties.
The majority of my family have moved to the IOW in the last 2 years so I don't have much family left there.
Has anybody had anything similar to this? Can anybody suggest any alternatives to me? I really want to get back to London/ Essex as soon as I can.

Thank you x
