Holiday Abroad

Hi, I want to go abroad next year with my 6 year old so I'm restricted to school holidays. Have been recommended Menorca but really just want somewhere with a pool, evening entertainment and a shirt distance from restaurants, harbour etc.

Firstly, any resort recommendations? And secondly are there any travel agents, online sites which offer good value for money or offers for single parent families?

What's your budget?
I go with first choice all inclusive because that's a break for me! Last year Cyprus but this year Gran Canaria.
You can get that for about £1200 if it's just 2

We love Skiathos and I would go there as a single parent in an instant as it is very safe.

Watching.. I took my ds2 to Spain this year but was bed and breakfast. Although I felt absolutely safe and had a good time ds2 missed having entertainment and other children about.
I need someone the same as op too!

Just don't go with loveholidays.com as I was left stranded at 6am with no return transport to the airport and they've been no help in refunding my extortionate emergency taxi fare to airport (even though thy said they would refund on the emergency phone number I rung while stranded). Never again will I use or recommend them.

I price up either jet 2 or Thomas cook , I phoned teletext last year...They wanted em to pay for flights up front but it was a few hundred pounds cheaper...However while on the phone the price jumped up.Then eventually after nearly an hour on phone got about £40 above original price but wanted me to pay it all.

I hung up then they rang back offering the original deal so have gone back to Thomas cook I felt less likely to be ripped off.. My advice put the dates, airports in and look up various places..If you fancy something go through trip adviser..put in families and read a few..Someone will always moan about something or another. So don't get put off by one review but if there is a theme take it as fact. Thomas cook do some single parent room offers but do compare each company.

Trying to keep it around £800-£900. I would go all inclusive if my daughter ate more than cucumber, red pepper and chips and ice-cream 🙄

I've looked at Jet2 holidays... They seem to have various offers on every few weeks so I guess it's just a case of waiting.

I might go in and see Thomas Cook about there single parent room offers and go from there..

Have you looked at booking separately? I booked through booking.com (hotel) and separate flights. In Easter flights from small airline for me and 2DCs to go to South of Spain was £700 (less than £200 if I had flown from Bristol/London, but I had voucher to reduce local flight). Very good self-catering by beach was around £500 for 5 nights (cheaper options, but I wanted two bedrooms and to be by beach and activities). I used TripAdvisor to find the hotel and the reviews were really useful.

BTW I went to a beach resort near Malaga. Family friendly and easy to research (YouTube videos show the beaches).

We've had quite a few holidays abroad in Greece, Cyprus and Spain. Our best holiday was an all inclusive in Salut. It's a great destination for children, there's loads to do, a really nice beach and there are no great distances to walk.

I usually spend £800 to £1200 either all inclusive or half board for two of us in August. Most of our holidays have been with Thompson.

Would recommend Thomas cook, they are good value and their customer service is good.

We did Thomson family life in Majorca it was great. We are staying with friends next yr but might try to get a week with Thomson as well. Ds 4 just loved the kids entertainment and other kids to play with & we did hand board so stayed in hotel from teatime onwards. Might do Thomson platinum kid friendly next time. I think a key issue is the size of the hotel. The holiday villages are great if you like that kind of thing... we went out every day - a lot of the people in our hotel literally never left the place. I would have been climbing the walls! X
