just wondered what you all do

with your dc when you are ill? i am asking cos i feel the worst of the worst and i just need to sleep and do nothing but of course of ds to attend to. it is times like this i hate being A single mum!

Single parents aren't allowed to get sick!

Seriously, I either call a good friend and ask if dd can go play for a few hours while I rest/sleep, or hire a babysitter. The friend is glad to help, but obviously it is only for a limited time. Of course, I have to pay the babysitter which is the downside to that solution.

Luckily this has only happened to me twice in 4 1/2 yrs.

The first time a friend had my ds for the day. At the time she had 4 of her own (now has 5!) so one more wasn't too much bother!!!

Then a couple of months ago I was really sick. I'm a cm and had to phone my 2 mindees parents to collect them. The first day I was ill my ds sat infront of cbeebies all day, I felt so ill I even thought about teaching him how to heat up his tea in the oven coz I couldn't get out of bed!! Somehow I managed to crawl out of bed to do it but it was really tough!!

And for the next 2 days he went to my mindees house and to a friend from school.

My family live at least 2 hours away and I'm so stubborn I'd rarely phone to ask for help.

Are you feeling unwell? Do you have any friends nearby who could help?

Soz, just read your post again and see that you are feeling ill. How old is your ds? Does he love cbeebies or have a fav dvd? I also find that a constant supply of cheerios helps. I know it's not ideal but whatever helps to make you feel better is a good thing in my book!!!

only 6 months so really is so dependant on me. cbeebies would only entertain him for about 10 mins! both my mum and sister are at work so i can't ask for help off them. let's hope they can rescue me tomorrow!

I sympathise, i feel shit tody as well, though i think its mainly hormonal! My ds is in bed having his sleep but i'll be entertaining him with cbeebies for the rest of the day!Feeling ill is the worst as a single mum. Good luck

I am lucky as My Mam/Dad are usually available to look after mine(Mam cares for my Nanna and Dad is retired) but now they are bigger will slob in front of tv and dd1 will make drinks and snacks .

i know what you mean, when i was ill, doctor advised rest. I started crying in doctors as rest and 2 boys just doesnt happen!!! kids played, house got into real mess and we lived off takeaways. We ate from paper plated too so no dishes. But i didnt have a break or get support.

I was ill recently when they were in Canada but a good friend came round with her DS & entertained my 2 as well for a few hours while I slept

I hardly dare ask this and I guess I know the answer - but where are the Dads?

Dh's dd doesn't live near enough for us to help if her mum were ill, but if she did dh would help out like a shot.

ds' dad has never clapped eyes on him except for the one time he was out shopping with my mum and they bumped into him in gap cos he works there. he ran off in the back so says it all really. i don't think a call off me asking him to help me out would go down very well!

In answer to your question Surfermum, the one & only time I called ex to look after the dc because I had a vomiting bug, he willing agreed to come over & organise things, unfortunately & unbeknown to me he got himself a set of keys to the house cut. And used them when we were away on holiday! Fortunately I'm rarely ill but have had to rely on friends at times.

I cant remember being ill when ds was younger, but now he is 6 he looks after me and watches dvds in bed with me and stuff. My mum and sister help out at times too

Urgh, poor you nappyaddict. Being ill with small children with no relief is the pits. It is a case of anything to survive. CBeebies on all day - whatever gets you through.

I was ill over christmas and new year but thankfully my (twin) brother took my DS (nearly 3) to stay with him and his family (his DS is 4 months older than mine) in Aviemore over new year so i got four whole days of lying in bed drinking lucozade and lemsips - talk about bliss! the first time since my DS was born that i was 'allowed' to be ill but usually i just have him cuddle up on the sofa with me and we watch Cebeebies or DVD's - dinner is almost always takeaway.......

I don't have any help really. In the day time the very few people who i could ask, all work during the days. Then my ds goes to bed at 7pm so thats my time to feel really sorry for myself. It is horrible being ill, but thats the way it is so ive just got to deal with it and hope im not ill very often
