new mortgage tax coming in August. Confused

My mum phoned me this morning saying about a new tax that comes in 7th August for people who are on the mortgage, but don't live in the property. I've googled it, but can't find out anything about it. Concerned this might effect the financial agreement I have made with my ex (but his solicitor hasn't send to court to be rubber stamped yet). Does anyone know anything about this please.

I remember something in the Budget mortgage interest tax relief being removed in 2017 on buy to let properties. Could your mum be referring to that?

No idea. She didn't know any more details. Thanks anyway.
