actual "holiday" holiday for single parent with one child

I think someone asked a similar question recently but I cannot find the post so apologies if I am asking something already covered.....

This year I have saved up and would like to take the scary step of taking an actual holiday abroad. DS would like to go to Italy. I have had a look at Eurocamp and a few of the parks seem easy enough to get to from the airport.

Has anyone had a holiday they would recommend? DS is nine so I was thinking somewhere with beach, pools (ideally with stuff like slides etc) and perhaps a kids club so he can hopefully make friends and somewhere easy to get to.

I am rather anxious about it as it will be a lot of hard saved money and our first proper holiday so really want to make it a good experience......

Any recommendations and advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

Have you thought about a cruise? Excellent value for what's really an AI holiday.
Very good kids clubs but stuff to do anyway if they don't fancy it. Best bit is that you both get to see a weeks worth of places of interest that would cost you a fortune in mini breaks. Barcelona, Pompeii, leaning tower of Pisa, Monaco, Venice etc etc.
Was perfect for single parents as you can "go out" safely in the evening in comparison to other holidays.
You tend to bump into people doing similar things so easy to make friends ( or not if you don't fancy it).
Pricey in the school holidays sometimes but there are excellent deals out there and you might get away with a term time holiday especially if there are INSETS.

Yes we have been away in the uk, mainly camping both with groups and just the two of us, and also staying in university halls in the summer. I feel that going on a proper holiday is overwhelming.... Not sure why as I have travelled a bit myself and have successfully looked after DS for ten years on my own so far!

A cruise sounds like a good idea. I get seasick (as am sure would DS) is that an issue on those big ships? A wee cruise round the Mediterranean would be lovely.

Will have another look and should just go ahead and book something as could faff about forever otherwise!

Have a look on Facebook at a group called single parent holidays. They are fab! There's lots of info on places that are suitable, you could also have a look at the events calendar and see if someone is doing something around the same time as you are free that you fancy. You have to request membership to the group via private message and it's honesty been an inspiration to me to take my ds away. Have a lovely time whatever you decide to do
