I was never much of one for mother and baby groups and socialising of this sort. It has been suggested that I contact gingerbread, is it for me? I am very shy and can come across as aloof and unfriendly. Can't deal with anymore stressful situations at the moment, does anyone have any positive experiences at Gingerbread meetings.

i haven't been to any meetings, like you i am nervy of groups, but i have joined gingerbread, enjoy getting the info and may psyche myself up to a meeting one day!

I go to one regularly. I found it really hard the first session, did feel self concious but they were really friendly. Go all the time now as my son loves it. Remember once they were just the same as you... totally nervous about going. At ours you just do what you want - sit down have a coffee, play with the kids, do craft.... whatever you like. If ever there is a new member i always go and say hi and take time to try and make them feel welcome. Go for it!

they have a freephone number which you can call too - they give free advice on all lone parent issues - you will need to join before getting telephone numbers of local groups. there are different types memberships but just ask for the free one unless you want to donate some money to them. they are a charity
