How to tell me son

I've been putting this off for a long time but I now need to know how to explain to my son about suicide. His father committed suicide when DS was a few months old. DS has always known he was loved by his dad, and still is from heaven. I know now, at the age of 8, he is going to need more than 'Daddy was sad and it was better for him in heaven' as an explanation.

Any help? How do you explain to an eight year old about suicide?

Thank you. I know I'll have to contact a counsellor at some point or something, but thought I'd try for some first hand experience or something.

I'm sure there will be some books somewhere which help to explain to children about depression, I would go from that angle, explaining that he had an illness which made him feel sad.

There is definitely an organisation set up to help children process the idea of death even if it's not an immediate grieving type thing. I don't know the name but perhaps somebody else will.

I do remember from previous threads an organisation that help with this. I really can't remember the name but I remember it been highly thought of.

Different senario but with my DS I have drip fed him so nothing comes as a shock.

Being sad doesn't make you kill yourself.. Your ds may feel sad about stuff but you need to differentiate between being sad and being il with depression such you commit suicide . Get some advice from save .
