Coping when ill!

How do you cope when you're unwell? Seriously?

I'm a single mum to 4mo dd and woke up this morning with a raging temperature and suspected ear and throat infection (might have to drag myself to out of hrs docs today) glands are swollen, can barely speak and my head is banging.

Have no help available, parents are both seriously unwell themselves and my niece has gastroenteritis so can hardly go round there.

What do I do? Who do I call in sick to??? Am managing to take care of her; feeding changing etc but feel bad that I'm not actively "entertaining" her and the house is a mess.

Feeling so crappy Sad

Thanks for you, it's really tough when you are ill being alone.

My opinion is that 4 month olds do not need constantly entertaining, being with you is enough. Look after yourself first, eat some easy and nutritious food, keep your temperature down, get everything you need to hand nearby and enjoy some snuggles with your baby on the sofa and sleep when they sleep.

you cope because you have to. rememeber next time to have a lot of paracetamol, ibuprofen, decongestants, cough mixture, immodium etc in stock. take as many as you need. stick small children in cots with toys. larger children get the emergency dvd. it is helpful if your child is used to being in a playpen or cot to play sometimes.

whatever you've got hopefully it will pass quickly.

I second blackeyeds suggestion of stocking up for next time. Make sure you've got a stash of painkillers at home, ice pops in the freezer for sore throats, emergency dvds when your dd is older and try and keep some ready meals in the freezer. and take vits!

until last year I had local family who could pop round for a couple of hours but since then I've been shitting myself about getting ill at weekends. at least I get a day off work if im sick in the week and the dc's are at school.

Thank you everyone Smile

Went to out of hours earlier and it is a throat and ear infection, have just been lazing about for the most part and baby has been happy enough snuggling up with me or kicking about on her play mat

Even got some tidying up done Grin

Blackeyedsusan is right about the meds and I would add dioralyte and berocca. We can't call in sick we can only dose ourselves up so we can function.
