What do you do in an evening?

Just wondered what people did weekday evenings?
Ive tried to get DC to attend clubs etc but they arent interested.

My even starts with me finishing work at 4 going for kids, getting home about half 4, making tea, kids go off to play, come in, homework, bath and bed.

Is it just me thats feels mega boring or is this the norm?

I crochet once DD is in bed.

I love our evenings.

we eat early as DC has a slow digestive system and needs time to 'go'.

then I make my evening latte, she lounges on sofa to chill out and wind down, sometimes with her doll in hand changing her clothes (the dolls that is!) and watching cbbc or another childrens channel, I go on pc, check my emails, local news and then MUmsnet time for a while!

Then she goes to bed and I go usually too at same time and watch tv in bed, (I need to be nearby as shes disabled and needs checking on frequently).

yes, sometimes feel lonely when shes in bed, would love a cuddle and a with someone, but this is our lives and that's the way it is.

Id also love to learn to crochet. gran and mum tried to teach me but ive never got the hang of it!

i collapse on the sofa, surf news etc drink tea, and go to bed early.

When dd goes to sleep I tidy around, watch TV, mumsnet and stare at the four walls

Not a lone parent but DH works evenings so I am in alone every night. I read, watch TV, have baths, do the ironing, cook or bake. Sometimes do a yoga DVD and often go to bed early!!

I have no evening ds goes to bed 9 p.m. and I do too these days .....! Or a small bit of TV until latest 10 p.m. I hate late nights.

This means I am invariably up early 5 am or 6 am latest so I have a kind of evening in the mornings instead!

I kind of envy parents who can enjoy an evening to themselves as that never happens to me esp. as he doesn't even see his dad either lol.

The only downside to ds's friends going to bed 8 pm is they get up at 6 am instead and I would just hate the early morning prattle!! I need it QUIET first thing!

Ds appears to have gone off reading books on his own (he is 9) so we are reading a few pages each of his school book every night or he would NEVER ever read on his own - it must be a phase he is in. Only 6 months ago he loved reading in his room 8 p.m. and I felt really on top of things lol.

I do tapestry while watching tv. I never mastered knitting so figured crochet wouldn't work either. The tapestry I do is easy as I follow a pattern but it looks complex when finished and everyone is amazed. I find it incredibly therapeutic and my own firm if meditation. I highly recommend it.

My DD is nearly 11 her lights out is 8.45pm, but she has me time for half an hour before that. I don't mind what she does as long as it is upstairs and quiet. There are no screens up there, but she has some Lego and sylvanians so she either plays or reads. I set the radio to sleep for 30 mins and after that she has to switch the light out.
So I get to go downstairs tidy up and have been 9 and 10pm to sit quietly and do my own thing.

I think routine is lovely for children, and if they're not keen to do clubs etc then I wouldn't push it. As long as they know they can have friends over or whatever if they want. Don't forget they've had a ton of stimulation and social interaction at school all day. We have swimming on a Monday evening, and beavers on a Thursday, and while I'm keen to encourage this I do secretly find the driving around and picking up/dropping off a bit of a pain. So quiet evenings the rest of the time is good for me. And as for after they're in bed.. I used to feel bad that I wasn't out seeing friends, going to the gym, and doing the other stuff I did when my exh was here. But in reality I'm so knackered doing everything for the kids, round the house, and working, that I know early nights in the week are the way to keep myself sane ;-) I try and make up for it on my child-free weekends (I know not all lone parents are lucky enough to have that break, which must be hard).

I never feel like there is enough time in the evening to get bored. I always have loads of stuff I never get round to doing.

OP I crochet in the evenings once kids are in bed or watch series on the iPad or read. Last night I had a girlfriend over for some wine & chocolate but most eves I'm in bed by 8:30pm asleep by 9:30 latest!
I work full time & my kids are up at 6am everyday including weekends so I get in as much sleep as I can lol!

Dd and I eat at about 5.30 then it's bath time, pyjamas time and the daily debate about whether it's really bed time.

Once she's actually on bed and tucked in its around 7.30 normally. I do the dishes if there are any then have a cup of tea while I watch some crap TV and play around on the laptop or do some embroidery. At the weekend my sister often comes round and we watch crap tv together. It sounds boring but I have grown to love my evenings, they are very calm and relaxing.

I'm normally in bed with dd by 10, really don't have any stamina these days!
