Depends on your sensibilities as a lone parent. If you know the 'system' and have the balls to ask for what your are entitled to then yes it does but the benefits system is a dangerous hole to fall into as it's hard to claw your way back out. Personally, when I became a lone parent, I didn't think for one second 'ooh, what benefits can I get?'. I just tried to make ends meet with a job and retain the tiny shred of dignity and self-confidence that I had.
