Anyone in Guildford area?

I was widowed nearly three months ago. I have a four year old and a six week old. We're surviving but weekends are tough. Anyone fancy meeting up for weekend play dates? Once the baby is older I will also be available for evening meets!

Have you tried joining toddler groups? I've made good friends through them. Jo jingles and groups like that run at the weekend if you can only go on the weekends.

Noooo at asking HV! If I show any weakness in front of those nutters they'll have me on drugs and daily visits so fast....it's hard enough keeping them away!

Hi Grobags - I'm not far away from you, but my DC are hulking great teens and it sounds as if you might be looking for someone with similar ages to yours? I've briefly read some of your posts and I'm so sorry to read about your loss, such a difficult time for you, but it sounds as if you're concentrating on some practical things that'll help you thru the coming months. If you'd like to meet up for a coffee and a natter sometime, that would be lovely.

Grobags whilst not widowed I do understand those weekends. I am not really near you so difficult.
Firstly I got a midweek activity that meant I got a shot a midweek adult conversation that helped with those weekends. I joined a choir. I think I saw you have a nanny to help you are you at the point yet you can go out for a few hours one evening. It also heled that no one at choir knew me when I was in a couple which was refreshing.
For a while I made weekends quite structured we will walk the dog for this long etc. I also got myself a do at home hobby, I crochet to fill those weekend evenings.

Have you heard of Home Start? It's a charity that pairs volunteers with families who need an extra pair of hands occasionally.

I used to live in Guildford, and one of my friends there volunteers for them, so I know they are in the area.

So sorry for your loss. It must be such a difficult time.

A VERY random thought for an atheist!

You could try going to church on a Sunday. You will normally get coffee and a chat afterwards, maybe some kind of Creche/Sunday school for your older child. It might just help structure Sunday mornings. I am sure that no-one would mind your religious persuasion whatever that may be.

I'm not great on my knowledge of Guildford churches, but maybe look at Emmanuel just off Worplesdon Rd. I used to go to fab fitness classes there with a crèche and seem to think that they had lots of other activities going on for all ages during the week.

Thanks for the suggestion Kantha. I'm can't really imagine anything worse than church though. If there is a God he's an evil, spiteful sod who took my children's father.
