Can't afford to go to a friends wedding? WWYD

I'm meant to be going to a wedding next weekend of two lovely friends but I just can't afford it and have no babysitter. How would you break the news. :( It's away. I can't aford the hotel, or gift or a drink. I knew about it ages ago but down to a 'change of circumstance' am now poor.

Be honest- if they're lovely, they'll understand. Anyone's life can change on a hairpin.

Yes. I've been putting it off hoping for a sort of miracle but as yet...na! I feel terrible but this is life and if there was anyway i could be there I would. :-( it's just humiliating to explain this.

Such a shame you can't go. Is there no one who can step in and babysit....I'm sure they wouldn't care less about a gift. I guess you have looked at all that already. Yes let them know....just say your childcare has let you down or something along those lines.

My mum would babysit but it's so far away that I would have to stay over/travel/nothing to wear blah blah. I literally just don't have it but they are so lovely. :-( Thanks for being kind. I feel bad because I've known about the wedding for ages and I knew the ex was going to ruin my life again eventually. Just bad timing! ;-)

Tell them as soon as you can and be honest, a friend will totally understand but give them some notice in case they have someone they can ask in your place, or cancel your meal to save the money etc.

Look, how I see it, it is more about your ex ruining it for you than it is about not being able to go.
It doesn't matter what you wear, it is not the reason you are going!!!! It doesn't matter about the gift either, what matters is that you are there to celebrate with your friends!!
You don't have to stay the night, just drive there and back, have just one small drink....but be there for your friends' celebrations. It is a rare and special occasion.

Besides, why give your ex the satisfaction? Also, you sound likd you could do with a distraction and some happiness.

Well I've told them. Sniff! I really would go but it's about 200 miles away. I'm sure they'll understand. And yes, I am quite bitter about the ex but that's another story eh? (cries a bit).

I had to tell my friends I couldn't go to their wedding because my Ex decided not to have DS again on his weekend and as I work nights during the week I felt I couldn't leave him for the weekend as well. Luckily for me the B and B understood and didn't charge me.

I was gutted. Is it just the present you are worried about? can you not crash on a friends floor?
