Male role model

My DS is 6.5 and I'm really starting to have some concern about the total lack of positive male influence in his life.

At school (infants) there are three men - the caretaker and a man that comes in every so often to hear them read and the vicar (when he visits).

I don't have a dad. He doesn't see his dad. My brother and I both work full time and he has his own family.

My male friends either live far away (next town) and do not visit often or live far away, do not visit often AND have their own families.

I have tried to get him into clubs with male leaders but they're hard to come across.

I would LOVE for an agency like "Bigger Brother" on that Simpsons episode where Bart gets a super awesome guy to take the place of his dad....

I was thinking about this the other day - my son is only coming up to two though. He was chasing a man around the playground arms out stretched asking to be picked up.. My heart broke...

I googled it and there is such a thing as a 'manny' agency which by the sounds of it, some people use as a buddy system too (ages are 21 up) but of course that's an expense... And in London...

Surely must be a better alternative for us?!?!

My son has an absent father so I understand your concerns. I'm lucky that he has my dad and uncles but outwith the family he has male football and running coaches who are all great guys, depends what your ds is into I guess. There are also 5 male teachers at his school, though he hasn't had them yet he will at some point. He also had a male nursery teacher who was lovely.
I think it's partly down to luck re teachers etc but lots of men teaching sports round here, could you look into that?
