The Centre for Social Justice have got the magic bullet for single parent families apparently:

giving unmarried fathers the right to be put on the birth certificate
and
scrapping registry Office fees (wtf??)

Who on earth thinks this is going to make any difference whatsoever?

How do you make sure fathers stay engaged with their kids after separation and divorce? I sure don't have any idea but I think the relationship between my DS and his dad would be improved by closing all the pubs down in the whole of the UK. Which won't happen obvs.... Hmm

I saw that in the paper yesterday and ground my teeth a bit. Haven't read the original report, but the newspaper article made it all about poor dads' rights and not even a little bit about their responsibilities.

I can't see the birth cert thing making any difference - fathers can get PR regardless of whether they're on the birth cert or not, so what change would this make?

PersonalClown · 14/07/2014 10:40

Bwhahahahaha.
My ex is/was on the birth certificate. Still didn't stop him fucking off when he wanted to.

cestlavielife · 14/07/2014 11:20

right. because all married couples and families with mum and dad at home never have any issues and there are never any problems.... and dad (or mum) is always heavily involved with the kids just coz they are married. all you need is a marriage certificate and there will never be any problems...... duh.

SiennaBlake · 14/07/2014 12:58

Ah, because being on the birth certificate somehow makes them care, of course! How ridiculous they are.

DrJuno · 14/07/2014 13:09

I was married, ExH on the birth certificate.

Didn't stop him buggering off with a woman half his age after 2 years of marriage and having virtually no interest in seeing his son.

I saw a woman on the BBC today who actually said that the rates of sp families hasn't actually changed in real terms in the last 50 years, interestingly.

*Dr Samantha Callan, David Cameron’s former family policy adviser, who co-wrote the report, said that young people should be encouraged to aspire to have children in wedlock.

Referring to a popular hit single, she added: ‘As Beyonce Knowles says in her song, “If you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it”.*

Oh dear Lord....

SiennaBlake · 14/07/2014 13:48

Oh. My. God. That's embarrassing.

MeMyselfAnd1 · 17/07/2014 14:20

Oh dear... That made me cringe.

I have not seen the report, does anybody has a link?

DrJuno · 17/07/2014 19:25

Hmm interesting to see Beyoncé May well be heading for divorce herself - a new guru of togetherness will have to be found!

Am on phone so can't put up a link, sorry!
