MENTALLY ILL AND STRESSED LONE PARENT

Am I being unreasonable to live in my home without my teen causing me stress. I ask her to complete certain jobs in the house, they are seldom completed and this causes more stress. I have given her loads of money for chores but now think enough is enough. I do have mental health issues and this is all making it much worse, should I now ask her to leave home?

Maybe sit her down and have a chat with her about her responsilibiltys around the house, that you are not the only person that lives there. And it would be nice for her to help out. That you are a team and not just a Lone Ranger doing it all by yourself. Point out that no more money because in the real world you don't get paid for doing nothing.

What options does your teen have? Is there somewhere else they can go? If she can stay with family, maybe a break from each other would help you both settle and allow you to discuss the issues you feel are impacting your health, and she can discuss where she feels unable to help - she may feel as under pressure as you if there is a lot on her shoulders too. If you can talk and understand each other, that might help improve things?

How old is she? Is dad on the scene?

She is 18,and I have talked to her about this issue on many occassions and have snapped periodically because she promises to change but never does. Her dad has nothing to do with her and there are no other family members

Her life sounds pretty miserable. Does she have any friends she can flatshare with?

Are you getting support with your mental health issues?

I think you need to ask for support from mh workers, maybe get a therapist involved to work with you and dd on a way forward ?

No one here can really advise on what must be a complex situation.

I had told my cpn,who was sympathetic but still discharged me for now. Said I can go to my GP again if I need any help in future. They are a waste of time. I only saw her twice this time. My daughter is at her boy friends tonight. I have told her not to come home she has had enough chances . I just wish she would obey simple house rules and it would be ok

go back to gp and ask for therapy/counselling so you can talk thru the issues. maybe ask dd if she will come with you like mediation/family therapy.
