Father's Day card observation.

Being the bigger person I took DD to choose a Father's Day card and gift for ExH. Who to be frank has been a rubbish father recently, but that is another thread.
Most of the cards were amazing father, fab father so on I watched DD clearly struggle with buying one of these taking them out looking putting them back etc.
Until she found one that said ' my favourite things 1. Daddy 2. Chips
Now I know it is meant to be a joke, but for her it is deadly serious her Daddy currently as important in her life as a plate of chips.

I get where you're coming from . When I was with XP I struggled to choose a fathers day card for him from the DC's. All the 'Amazing Dad!' cards were bullshit.

I let her choose, but always take her to get things for him for Christmas, birthdays and fathers days. She just sees through him now.

'To my dad on father's day' ones I like. They dont make a bold statement but shows that they thought about him.

WE struggle with this too. I find the best ones are ones they make themselves. They can say what they want. DD1 (9) made one at school that she had to include a 'voucher' in for him. Her voucher said that she would remind him to buy her the thing he'd promised to

Ds has shared a poster on his wall for his father. "Happy Father's Day to all the single moms pulling double duty!" Given his father didn't speak to him for 6 months after ds corrected his grammar I can see this going down well. Not. He didn't want to send a card (we don't do Mother's Day either though as he's lovely for all of the other days in the year, IYKWIM.)

I did a home made one this year out of frustration at all the "best daddy" crap that was in the shops. Not that his dad has actually acknowledged it any way, grrrr!

Dd can't read that well yet but she liked the picture on the 'Worlds best dad' card. I couldn't let her pick it. I just couldn't. I steered her towards one saying 'I love my daddy' or something similar even tho that stuck in my throat too!

ahh a voucher... ds gave me a voucher from school mothers day cards. he promised to clean the windows. when I asked him if was goingto help clean the windows... he said he only writed it because he had to.

funnily enough, he normally likes cleaning the windows.

dd's teacher made them do one that said daddy is better than chips...

well given that chips are high in saturated fats and exposed to them on a long term basis may make you very ill or cause an early death, I don't think she was setting the bar very high!

I saw an e-card I was very tempted to send.
It said 'I hope Father's Day is as relaxing as every other day of your highly sedentary existence.'

i am lucky enough to have a good relationship with my dad, but in my family no one would bat an eyelid if they were given a card without a pre-printed message written on it for mother's/father's day, birthdays etc - like nice "art" cards that are blank inside and just have a nice picture on the front

you can just write "happy father's day, love from X" in it, without any need to worry about inaccurate messages

or would a card like that not go down well, does it have to be one with a pre-printed message?

God, his wife's put a message on his feed (which ds can see) saying he's the most wonderful father ever and they are really lucky He hasn't seen ds for almost 5 years.
