I'm a single mum to 3 kids my oldest is 7 then 19 months and 6 months...
I'm wondering my 19month old won't talk she talks in her own wee language that no one understands, is that normal for her age? How can I get her to start saying words? The only word she says is mum, she gets so frustrated cause no one can understand what she wants.. So any advice on how to help her speech would be appreciated xx

If it's of concern to you, have you had a word with the GP or HV to see if it's common? I think at 19mo, I wouldn't be overly worried but a professional opinion might soothe your worries.

Thanks I spoke to my hv before about it and she said I try taking her to toddler groups but even that hasn't been helping but I'll mention it again as I feel really bad for her cause she seems really upset when I can't understand what she is staying. Thank you for the advice x

try doing signs with her.
and use photos so she can tell you who/what she wants.
get her hearing checked.

and ask hv to r efer to speech therapist for assessment if she isnt saying more words in a few months. have a look at the ican website

Thank you I'll try the cards and see if that helps, if not I'll go to either gp or hv xx
