My toddler son seems to just be with his father

I separated from my ex nearly ten months ago now and my son who is almost three spends 2 nights and three days a week with his dad and the rest of the time with me.

He is increasingly obsessed with his dad, constantly asks if daddy is coming even if he has just come back from his dad, is now refusing to call my house home and says he wants to go home to daddy's when he is at my home, that he misses daddy etc.

Of course I understand my son misses his dad but I do find it all pretty upsetting especially refusing to recognise our home. Is this unreasonable of me? Have other parents been through the same?

Any advice really welcome-thank you

I would think it's probably the same as when a bairn chooses a preference towards one parent.. I think 3 is classic for wanting daddy and then it'll switch again to mummy.

Please try not to take it personally.. you are not in competition with your ex.. just be consistent and remember this too will pass.

I would feel upset if I'm honest but yes its a phase. Most likely reason is your consistent and there the sight majority he doesn't need to ask for you and it would never cross his mind that you wouldn't be there.

It's true... he knows that you're there in the background.. he's secure that you aren't going anywhere and that allows him to explore his feelings. He takes mummy for granted and that's a good thing.

You're a good mum.. you've made your youngling secure in your love for him. I promise you that this will pass as will everything else that does.

Ah thank you-that makes me feel alot better, its not so easy this sole parenting lark

One of my DC used to burst into tears when I collected him from preschool and he would beg for Daddy. It was awful, lasted 6 months and then one day just stopped. Definitely a phase :)
