Mine are lonely and long....i sometimes enjoy them but most often feel very alone

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I struggle with evenings. Although today I'm eating ben & jerrys while watching the kardashians. At least I don't have to share the B&J Grin.

5yo DD is still awake upstairs. As if it's not bad enough talking to an adult I get to chase her around for hours and interupt my food .

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 29/12/2013 21:42

My DC are awake but in their bedrooms, the nights are long.

Meglet · 29/12/2013 21:47

not talking to an adult I mean.

I often wonder what single parents did before mumsnet / facebook / twitter? At least there's always a virtual person I can chunter along to.

legohouse · 29/12/2013 21:48

just feels relentless right now, other times not so bad...

It's a little better when the evenings start getting lighter, for me anyway. I have a new OU module starting in the spring too.

Sometimes my auntie calls me. Mum sometimes calls to make sure I haven't jumped off the roof or e-bayed the DC's Hmm.

NicknameIncomplete · 29/12/2013 22:08

Evenings are rubbish for me too.

I dont have people around in the evenings much because my child is so nosey and wants to be downstairs with the adults meaning that i cant have adult conversations.

kingbeat23 · 29/12/2013 22:32

Hate evenings and can't wait for the enforced frivolity to finish. I am the grinch.

kingbeat23 · 29/12/2013 22:33

What's worse is my friend is looking after DD tonight/tomorrow but due to it being for work reasons I can't/won't make any plans for tonight. AND the place is empty. HmmConfused

Sasquatch75 · 29/12/2013 22:52

I hate evenings too. Most of the time I find things to do though... Tonight I put all my 7 year old's new Match Attax cards in his album and sorted out swapsies lol! Then had a shower and am now off to bed.

Very resentful towards exh atm as my 2 year old really plays up at bedtime and then wakes around 3am wanting to come into bed with me...

NewBeginningsSnoopy · 29/12/2013 23:07

Hey. So listless in the evenings here too. I don't do anything. I don't do housework, I don't do anything productive OR relaxing. Just fiddle on my phone & feel lonely! I think If I turn my phone off early in evening, would be better!!!

BuffyxSummers · 30/12/2013 01:15

I like evenings but only because I'm naturally a loner I think. Plus I've got tons of DVDs I'm trying to get through so kind of look forward to the time to myself. I think if I actually had friends it would hit me harder if that makes sense? You can't miss what you don't have and all that.

RitaFajita · 30/12/2013 08:07

I've got relatives staying at moment and am kind of missing my evenings to myself.... where I've a little space and time to think and not have to watch their crap TV shows etc and having to make polite conversation when tired.
I will no doubt be lonely when they leave though, I always seem to want what I don't have!

octopusinasantasack · 30/12/2013 08:11

Lonely and long here too...much like the days.

FloozeyLoozey · 30/12/2013 08:18

I vary. Sometimes I enjoy them, sometimes I feel sad and sometimes I'm just dreadfully bored. Getting sky movies helped!

LetZygonsbeZygons · 30/12/2013 17:37

read this somewhere where someone said something like 'when its DC and me that's okay, but when they go to bed I only hear one heartbeat-mine-and that's when I feel lonely'.

totes agree.

TaillessChicken · 30/12/2013 17:43

Zygons spot on...and when they are on sleepovers and you are the only person in the house.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 30/12/2013 17:47

mines been on 1 (Half) sleepover her whole life (she cried so much I had to go get her!) and it was torture for me! we had friends staying HERE after that.

Iv'e always fared well with my own company. However if I don't keep busy I end up eating non stop and watch my arse get bigger! I usually work out though, watch something on Netflix and if I must iron and clean the house.

Really1 · 02/01/2014 20:21

I normally end up in bed at 8pm (like now) out of boredom (On the iPad obs!) But I'm starting to feel like I'm bloody addicted to the thing!
I do like my own company though so can't complain too much!
