Housing benefit advice

Hi, I am a lone parent and my daughter is 8 months old. My relationship broke down when I was pregnant and I moved back to my parents when she was 3 weeks old. We now want to get our own place and know that I need to find a place and then apply for housing benefit. Am just wondering if anyone has any experience of this and if there will be an issue with the fact that my parents have enough room for us to live with them. Do we have to stay where we are? Thanks!

No, I think you will be nettled, but if you look for social housing you may well not be a priority.
Private landlords often don't accept HA benefit. Start the conversation with DWP and be thankful you have somewhere safe and warm whilst you get sorted :) And Good Luck!

for social housing, you would not be classed as over crowding if you have your own room, but you could say your parents have asked you to move out and your not getting on etc, some private landlords do not take hb, but some do, you would need to ask around. Go along to the housing and get your name on the list to start the ball rolling, as sometimes it can take a while, goodluck.

Our council has a list of private landlords who do accept HB they contact the council when they need a new tenant. They usually don't need a deposit accepting the council as guarantor.
