CSA question

BlueEyedLass · 03/06/2013 21:29

My friend has just found out she is pregnant. The father already pays CSA for three other children (all by the same mother)

Will she recieve anything from the CSA, as on the calculator it only accounts for 3 children and no more.

I assume that they aren't together anymore?

If so, then yes he should pay maintenance via CSA. I don't think there is an upper limit to the number of kids someone is expected to pay for.

She should - but it will be a reduced amount to allow for his existing children.

They were never together. It was a mistake I think.

Its strange how the calculator only allows for 3 or more children isn't it?

There is a maximum that can be deducted from his income (25% for three or more DC's, I think) and that 25% is split between the DC's.

In this case, your friend will receive some maintenance, and the maintenance paid to the mothers of the other DC's will go down to cover it.

They will be taking off 25% for the 3 children now and paying it to the children's Mother. What they will do is take the 25% and then split it between 4. 1/4 will go to your friend and 3/4 will go to the other Mum.

It will be made slightly more complicated if he has any of the children overnight but that is the basics of how they work out the 25% for 3 children or more.
