Ok, first to say that I am not v good at writing stuff down, so please bear with me Smile.

I have been living in the UK with my partner for a few years now, we have two kids (2.8yo and 16wks old), to cut long story short, he doesn't seem to fit in family life, he finds it so hard to be a father (although when he wants he is great with the kids) and this is affecting our relationship to the point that I have decided that I prefer to be on my own with the kids: living with him is hell right now.

My situation is the following:

I am part-time student, no general income.
No relatives to rely on completely (just my brother but he is a young adult and working), and a couple of good friends with their families and kids.

I know if I become single mum, my partner will give me a hand, but I would love to know if being a student I can get some support to work a few hours a week to support myself, i.e. childcare support?

Would you share some of your stories/ knowledge about being a single parent in London/UK?

Thank you in advance.

You should get tax credits and possibly housing benefit etc. Hope this helps a little and good luck.x

hi/czesc?
you can claim income support, child tax credits, child benefit and housing benefit.
I know your youngest is only 16 weeks at the moment but in the future you could work part time and there would be help for nursery fees, as far as I know, however the situation changes all the time, (being a political football) and so you would be best off going to the jobcentreplus and asking them for up to date information.
Good luck.
