Hi everyone. I'm new to the boards and would love some advice from anyone who has been through what I am now. I have been a single parent for 3 years and had no serious relationship during this time. I have met someone new and things are going great but it's a bit difficult as I have 2 kids daughter 7 & son 4 yrs and until I have introduced them to my new partner I am having to keep them and him apart only seeing him when the kids are with their dad. I want to introduce them so I can see more of partner. How long should I leave it before introducing the kids to him and any recommendations on how to go about it would be greatly appreciated. I am not the sort of person to have lots of different men in my kids lives this man is special!the kids do have regular contact with their dad and I wonder if I should tell him about my new partner or not and should I tell him before I tell the kids? Please help Thanks

Talk to them and find out how they feel. Slowly start mentioning his name and sharing lovely stories about him. When they ask where you have been while they were away tell them the truth. After a while you can say , would you like to meet him and presto bobs your uncle. Then i wouldn't bother being touchy feely for a bit and act like your mates until they connect with him.

Hello bit different for me i guess as my DD is only 3 but ive been single since she was born till before xmas. my new partner is fantastic, he hasnt got kids and i was very unsure about introducing him. i was very slow to introduce him and just did it step by step. we all went out for a walk initially so she could have her own space and she was fine with him from then on. now has to speak to him when he is away on business before sh goes to bed etc. i am quite amazed seeing as she has not had a father figure in the past. just do what feels right. good luck
