Getting a will done. Any advice

So in a few weeks I will be a single mother and realise I need to get my will done! (Life insurance sorted). As the father lives abroad and has been absent the whole pregnancy and shown no interest I would like to appoint my lovely sister and her husbands guardians in case of my demise and also to administer any money. If the absent father wishes to fight for DD and wins (which I realise he has a chance of, being the bio father) I would not like her money to go to him but be administered by my sister and husband as they see fit. I dont have a mortgage so it is pretty much appointing guardians and administering the life insurance money.

So checked with local solicitors and...OMG £300 to write a will!! I have already started on my maternity money so not exactly flush. I realise that it is important that it is right but any tips on writing your own will/getting it done cheaper.

Any advice much appreciated.

Will Aid is a scheme that runs in November but you should book up now. You choose a local solicitor who will write up your will for a suggested donation of £85 which is given to charity. The link is here

Check out the Classified Ad section on MN. I got sorted for a lot less than that.
