Does anyone know what the rules are about disclosing the father to CSA?

Hi,

hope someone can help. I'm not sure how to google it iyswim.

Does anyone know if you have to tell the CSA or benefits people who the father of your child is? I remember a few years ago that you had to tell them unless there was a threat of violence etc, or they would take away some of your benefit.

I don't mind if they take away some money from me but would like to avoid telling them because I've been threatened by ex, that if I want maintenance he will 'never leave me alone'.

So just wondering whether the rules are still in place or if it's all changed.

Thankyou

Hi.

No, with regard to benefits you do not have to tell them who your child's father is. They don't even ask. I'm not sure if child support is included in housing benefit calculations though. Direct.gov.co.uk is very helpful.

If you went to the CSA you would have to tell them who the father is, or they can't take child support from him!

Thankyou - that's great. I actually just spoke to the CSA and they also said there is no obligation to disclose his details now - and there's no penalty if you don't.

So looks like that's definite then Smile

Hope that anyone else in a similar situation finds this useful too.
