The scary world of DATING!

Hello!

This is the first time I have ever posted, but would really appreciate hearing about some other single parent's experiences with the (totally frightening?!) world of internet dating...

I recently become single again, and after two very long relationships have decided to negotiate 'putting myself out there' cringe and meeting some new people. I don't necessarily think I'm looking for love, but it would be nice to boost my self confidence by meeting some nice men (I hope they do exist!!)

So has anyone here used internet dating sites? Which ones would you recommend? I don't know if I am particularly up for signing up to one where I'm going to get a loads of messages from weirdos. Also, if you hve used them do you always include that you are a parent in your profile, or do you find this puts people off??

Would really appreciate hearing any advise you might have for me!

:-)

Me too! Well when I've had this baby anyway. Single after 4 years of marriage. Feeling v daunted as never had a relationship when the kids were mine. I can't even imagine how that would look. Exp will start having overnight contact soon and technically going on a date is actually possible! The thrill!!

I'm v wary of online dating as frankly I know my ex is doing it - too close to home. But don't see how else I can meet anyone?

Will watch this thread Smile

I haven't dipped my toe in yet (so to speak) but have been looking into it for when I might feel like it...or have the time!

I did read somewhere (MN or similar) that putting the fact that you were a parent on was not such a good thing as it could attract unwanted attention from some quarters...my DC's are very young so I feel quite cautious.

There was also this thread that I saved, it's a really frank/harsh 'how to win at online dating' guide...

I have tried it and am currently doing it. eurgh the weirdos out there will go and look at these threads for inspiration!

I think I would always put that I have kids in my profile. Anyone who's not interested because of that is no good. I don't think the risk of people searching for parents for unsavoury reasons is a big one and it would be a long time before they were anywhere near meeting them anyway.

I'm considering Internet dating at some point soon, but I'm apprehensive about meeting too many people who are creepy/ too lonely.

cinammon that looks like a good link. Am off to read it to see where I am going wrong Grin
