Maintenance increase??

STBXH has been paying £50 per month for our DD, he should be paying £200, but I didn't press him for more as he is living in our jointly mortgaged house and even with a lodger covering my half of the mortgage, I didn't want to risk him not paying the mortgage. However has since discovered that he has moved OW into our house. So as he is now receiving money off her for rent as too, do you think it would be fair to ask him to increase his maintenance for our daughter? There appears to be more than enough money coming in for him to go on 3 holidays in 6 weeks, and lead a very indulgent lifestyle. WWYD?

Thanks in advance

CSA - all the way. Don't even communicate about it.

Well, tell him to expect the letter to avoid the surprise. Tell him you don't feel comfortable discussing money with him as you are seperated but want to allow him to support his (put "our") daughter in the way you know he will want to as she grows up.

I hope youre getting a good chunk of the house?

I would ask him to increase the payments to the £200 if that's what it should be. The lodger is effectively living in your share of the property and paying your share of the mortgage - all sounds fair enough. But doesn't mean he shouldn't be paying child support.

And if he says no, I would go via the CSA.

If you're worried he won't pay the mortgage, maybe you'd be best to sell the house and separate your finances.

Thanks for the feedback.

The house is currently in the process of being discussed at mediation. I would like it sold as without the others support neither of us can afford it solo. He has offered me £3.5k to buy me out of it with OW, and I've told him to come back with a double figure offer (which the mediator/solicitors) agree, the house is worth £169k. However until thats sorted I cant risk him defaulting on the mortgage which is why I haven't pushed him to support DD more in a financials sense, however now he has to extra rents coming in, I think he should be helping DD more if that makes sense.

I defo think your right about the CSA though, its time for me to give them another call, even if we dont use them to transfer money.
