Hi,

Has anyone ever been on one? Are they good? Do they work? Is it lonely?

I have an 8 year old and am desperate to get away. Can't be too pricey but would be grateful for anyones input or to hear any of your experiences....

Nicola

I had a few. Its ok during the day with lots of things to do but I did find it very difficult every evening dinner time to be at the table just the 2 of us while the other tables are full of happy looking families. I do not know how it really affected dc but for sure he noticed too.
If you have never had one you will be ok, it will be still a big adventure for the 2 of you.
I got to the point where I lost interests for holidays because they are very hard work, still havent found the right formula

Are we talking about holidaying as a single parent, or going on a specific 'single parent' holiday where a group of single parents all holiday together. I've done both, and not had an issue with either, but having said that I have 3DCs so there's always that group feeling.

There was a thread last year with lots of good ideas and recommendations on it, here is the link

This website has a good range price wise, from camping, to other UK, to abroad:

SPTC - Single Parent Travel Club - is excellent. Take a look at their website. Mostly they are very reasonably-priced holidays as run voluntarily. Really recommend, had a couple of lovely holidays with them.

The first time I went on my own I felt really out of place. Lots of stares at us while at dinner. (its just DS and I)

Raised eyebrows from other women if I spoke to their husbands (just friendly chat in passing, I'd speak to the wives too). Just because I'm a single mother doesn't mean that I intend to steal your husband. Why would anyone want to steal your husband Hmm?

I have since decided that it was just that place!!

Everytime I've been elsewhere I've had a great time. Day and evening. lots of friendly families whating to chat etc

Its difficult to take the plunge first time but just do it and it gets easier.

I also prefer it to going on holiday with frends because I can do my own thing without having to accomadate everyone else.

Also you never know, you might meet someone on holiday Wink Grin
