Get this: dd 5 asked me the other day who I thought the best dad was, of all her friends. I said: " I dunno, what do you think?" She said: "You are mummy".
DD sees her dad all the time with my total support, so no question of knowing who daddy is.
I just thought this was lovely.
Whenever you single mums feel you are being mum and dad all the time, with no acknowledgement of the slog involved, don't forget certain small people see it all and make their own judgement. Have no doubt the reverse is true for dads who are the main carer too x

Please ingore me before I even begin, I'm a grumpy kind of git at the best of times. Maybe some peoples cups are always half full, where mines always half empty. I think it's a bit depressing really, I can't remember judging my own parents, hence I think the only answer that would make me happy asking anyone anywhere who the best farther or mother would be would be their own. Any other answer I would find a little depressing. I hope this has nothing to do with me being a dad who isn't the main carer, but just wanting everyone to have a happy childhood.

I think it's lovely - your DD is growing up realising that parents don't have to conform to gender stereotypes around who does what with the kids. Whichever parent the child is with has to be both both mum and dad really don't you? You can't have mum doing the cooking and comforting whilst dad kicks balls around and fixes things round the house - your DD knows that, and is telling you you're doing a great job :)
