What does a single mum look like??

I was pushing the pram across a pedestrian crossing this afternoon. It was a beautiful day. Then I heard a statement from a passenger in a nearby open top jeep 'I wouldn't mind doing a single mum'! I looked around and realised he was talking about me!!!! I laughed at him he must have been at least 10 years younger...minimum. Anyway are there any tell tale signs that set us single mums apart before we even open our mouths???:) . My last post was a bit serious!

Big smile on our face, happy and relaxed because we have no need to worry about what the husband may be up to on Facebook/email/dating sites etc.....

I suspect it's something as simple as 'with kids...without ring on finger'. :)

always I doubt that sets us apart. A lot of women aren't married but aren't single mums isn't there.

I don't know what it is tbh. I wish I knew.

Maybe its an air of confidence. We can tackle anything without the need of support of a partner (not that we don't want support). Grin

Putting on my deerstalker, and maybe some swooping camera effects supplied by the BBC special effects department. I see that your post was made on the Saturday, hence in most peoples minds, if you did have a husband he would not in all probability be at work on this day. You also say it was a beautiful day, early in spring at the end of winter why would your husband/boyfriend not be joining you and child on such a day if you weren't single. Finally if there was any football match, or some such male orientated event at the time of the said incident, that would explain your lack of company on such a 'beautiful day' to the individual in question, then surely this single male would himself be enjoying such activity either at a pub or some other social gathering instead of riding in an open top jeep.

Right back to annoying Watson with my attempts to play this violin.

AThingInYourLife · 12/03/2012 11:59

He was just being hopeful you were single, as in:

"I'd do you if you're available!"

Which you should obviously be very flattered by :o

I'm married and have children but no ring.

Well, I have a ring, but it doesn't fit me at the moment Blush

Hm. I think I look like one who would remark back that 'that may be the case but I wouldn't do a plank in an open top jeep shouting innuendo at me in the street '.

If however he was in a 1969 Land Rover series II type jeep, he can have my number.

I do not understand why some men automatically assume we must be gagging for action just because we are single parents perhaps we can manage without a bloke even.

They do make various assumptions don't they lol.

To be honest, I would have taken offense at that comment. Doing a single mum? and said in front of your child??? please... Hmm

He can go and do his own mum if he wants..

JingleJingleJingle · 16/03/2012 19:45

See. I'd say single mums def look different to others mums...bags under eyes, zombie like stance, dazed and confused... I could go on or is that just me

MummyOW · 17/03/2012 16:20

Oh my god... I too would have been offended by his comment and told him to do one!! I don't think we look that different - maybe a little more tired yes but ot's not we have a sign above our heads saying 'single mum here' - some people.

O x

I went for tea with my two oldest children back in january, and after the waiter spent half an hour flirting with me and passed his number to me, I asked him how he knew I was a single parent and he said it was the communication I had with my children?

Suppose that doesnt help if you're just walking down the street? Perhaps if you are not sat in the passenger seat of a car with your big strong hubby driving you about then you must be single?!!
