I have been a lone parent for over 11 years now, & have 2 very lovely DS's. Eldest, nearly 20, has very little to do with his dad who has shown very little interest in him for years & has only been to visit him once at uni in 18 months. He is off abroad with his uni soon but dad has shown no interest: assumed it was largely because the subject area wasn't his thing.

But today he has let youngest down bigtime too. It's not the first time but it has hit youngest very hard: dad did something that adversely affects a college assignment. DS2 told me that he thinks his dad only really cares about the son he has with his second wife.

It hurts me so much that their dad continues to let these 2 wonderful young men down. I don't understand it at all as he has now lost them both. They think of his as their biological father only & not as a dad...how sad is that.

It's his loss, the only thing you can do together with your eldest is to heelp your youngest through it.

DS 1 will be able to understand what DS2 is feeling better than anyone. Maybe if you can get them to have a blokey chat before DS1 goes abroad?
