Am leaving my relationship, will be gone by the end of the month. Trying to work out at what point to make a new tax credits claim. How long does it generally take for money to come through on a new claim?

will it be a totallly new claim or amending a current claim?
You should see your money within 4 weeks, it can be sooner if simple but it can also be longer if more complicated.

Completely new I think?

Currently claim with dcs father. Will be moving out and claiming as a single parent. Ok I think 4 weeks will be manageable, if I'm really tight for the next few weeks. Will be staying with family initially so can get by for a few weeks.

I got mine really quickly within a week of applying
After that I changed my bank account with them and it took them 4 weeks to pay me my money. It was a really tough 4 weeks! Good luck

i am currently waiting for new claim to be processed (its been 5 weeks-no light at end of tunnel yet, also had no income support or housing benefit, its been awful, but a friend said today you can apparently go to your local HMRC tax office and get an interim payment while they are processing your clam which they will then take off your award.
I am going into mine tomorrow with all my documents, maybe its worth you going in to yours. i suppose you can search for your nearest office online.

Mine was super quick, it depends how cut and dry your application is. Even if you had an exisiting joint claim, it will still be completely new. You close the old one and then start a new one. Don't just amend the old one because if there are any overpayments or anything like that it's best to get it clearer up now, while your ex's name is still on it.

Don't wait until he's gone, you can make the claim form when you split, even if he's still there.
