I have received a letter today from the tax credits. I have 3 daughters and seperated from there dad nearly 3 years ago. I claim as a single parent. For the past 18 months everything has settled down and we now have a brother/sister sort of relationship. He lives next to me and quite often pops in to see the kids when he hasnt got them but never stays here. He did a couple of weeks ago when i went to hospital for an operation with youngest as i had no one to look after older ones.

I have recieved a letter today from HM Revenues and it says a couple would usually but not always live together or share responsibility for looking after dependant children and act as a coouple. We go on holiday once a year with the kids (caravan park). I dont drive so he is the only way of me getting there.

We have got totally seperate lives and are only on good terms as we have 3 kids to bring up. If we had no kids we would probably never had clapped eyes on each other again.

I know most ex's dont get along but we have always made an effort to for the kids and i cant see anything wrong with him calling into my house as a friend which he now is. I also have keys for his flat and walk his dog if he cant get home.

I am now really worried. Is this a standard letter as i have never had one before. Has anyone else got one?.

I got a letter this morning too and have to go in next week. I called as I have been sent lots of 'return to work' letters that they keep rearanging so I wanted to know if I could kill two birds with one stone...anyway, I think they must have some sort of target to meet as the man said the letters have been reworded and its all just formalities.

Call the compliance team, they are helpful.

If they haven't asked you to make an appointment, your circumstances haven't changed and you gave the correct information on your initial claim then I would leave it.
