Diy courses

Have any other mums and dads paid to do diy courses?

I've been looking at a plastering course, but it's £360 (ouch)- my thinking is that if I can understand how to do it, I can do up my whole house and save myself a fortune!!

What do you think? good idea or not?

i think it is a great idea to do this - but are there cheaper ones run by local colleges?

Hmm, I do alot of my own DIY, and I have done some bricklaying and plastering. What you have to remember is to some degree it's a physical skill which is only gained through experiance and practice, think of playing sports or musical instrument.

That's not to say you shouldn't do it, but on the other hand you may find yourself with some very wobbly finishes or spending sodding hours and days sanding down to get a smooth finish like a professional. You may find yourself wishing you had spent the time earning the money to pay someone else to do it.

Thanks girls, I think this topic is much more worthy than 'how can I get a man?' -lol, but what do I know?

I'm still thinking about what I should do, I'm torn still, is it worth the cash? Should I hire a plasterer? I'm not sure! Thanks for the replies!!

Plastering big areas is something I would definitely get a pro in to do because it is really, really hard to do it well.

I do however do all my own decorating, lay bricks, sand floors, wire in light fittings, drill into tiles etc.

I do the stuff that a bit of a bodge job doesn't matter basically

why dont u look and see if there is a video online that shows u how to do it? i was talking about this at work a few months ago and was told theres step by step how to's on youtube etc, but i've given up momentarily and didnt bother looking, but that would be a hell of a lot cheaper!
Good luck!!
