When we got our dog we were married. Seperated now and has not paid a penny towards her upkeep can I request that there is some contribution?

dont hold your breath. We have 2 dogs and whilst I wanted them and ex didnt I have never heard of anyone getting dog support Grin

That is tricky - our dog went with the ex as I couldn't leave DS alone to walk her at night, but I still pay upkeep if there are vets bills etc.

Have you asked him? are you amicable?

I still buy my cats cat food, but my ex has custody (I'm a woman). and I paid for the other ones vets bills while it was still alive.

But you have no right to any 'dog support'

My ex contributed nothing to our cat which I took - but then he didn't exactly contribute any more than he really had to, to our kids!

A friend of mine used to pay towards her exes and her shared cats until her DH found out! Another friend had a kind of shared custody over their dogs. He had them all week, she got them at weekends and they did 50/50 on costs. But it got too hard in the end she gave them up. Dogs are great company if you're alone. I'm not a lone parent but DH is away so much I like having the dog around in the evenings when the kids are around. Plus the benefits of children growing up with pets are well documented.
