single or divorced?

I just had to fill in a survey, and the status question asked if I was married, single or divorced.
My first response was single, but I am nearly divorced too.
What does everyone else think about this, and is it important? When I am introducing myself to new people I say I am single.
Even my car insurance quotes wanted to know.
Anyone else have any thoughts or feelings?

I jhust tick the single box. Don't see why it is relevent that once upon a time I got divorced.

I'm not divorced yet, but I'd still tick single.

My insurer told me premiums were cheaper for married people, even when they only had access to one car. My premium went up when I took my ex off as named driver (he had never driven it anyway, I wouldn't let him Grin )

Yes my premium went up too, I was not happy!
I am happy to be single, and can't wait to be divorced from scumbag ex, it just seems that there is a distinction being made.

I always say single, I don't see why once being married should change the fact that we are in fact single again now!

Single every time. My previous marital status is of no consequence to anyone, and once you are divorced you are single anyway.

Interesting one. Like ticking which ethnic box I fit into, I tend to leave blank or just answer something unhelpful like 'other'! My divorce was some years ago and I want to forget about the whole relationship never mind title myself as that as some kind of permanent state! Interestingly, my DP who resists marriage now after a divorce years ago was answering 'er divorced' and then muttering something about 'but I live with my er partner' to the hospital last week - what relevance it had to an outpatients appointment I don't know. Though in fact this also makes me think that I hope someone asks me in earshot of him, so I can say 'single' very loudly Grin!

Yes it's strange that they differentiate between divorced and single. As though your marriage ought to carry on haunting you!?!?!
