Has anyone ever had the Housing Benefit people dig around their finances?

Ex moved out a month or so ago for the second time. So we were together for a year last year and apart again the year before, if that makes sense.
I'm a FT student so put in a claim for HB, they wrote to me asking for the past three years worth of student finance forms. I wasn't even claiming for all that time.

Should I be worried that they're planning on auditing me or whatever it is that they do? I can't imagine why they'd want the info (though have sent it all obviously) but now I'm convincing myself that I've done something wrong and will be thrown into prison forever. Anyone had any experience of this?

Its because your Student Finance is a source of income. I shouldnt worry too much.

Oh I have had this, had to take in 6 months of bank statements and loads of other bits and pieces purely because I changed from Income Support to Carers Allowance, think the change triggered all kinds of checks or something. I took them in, they checked and everything carried on as normal, I woudn't worry.

Thank you, I googled "overpayment" and talked myself into Cell Block H within minutes!. I've heard nothing back, I sent it all off and then wondered a day later if so much info was normal and if I';ve done anything wrong in 2008 or similar. Hopefully not, will keep you posted.
