So I exchanged a couple of messages last night with this guy, he seems nice enough and I agreed to log in again tonight. I sent a message asking about his day, interests and gave him a bit of info about mine. I got the following response and I don't know how to respond. He asks no questions of me at all, does that mean he isn't interested or am I jumping to conclusions?

"like you i have a wide taste in music
love some classic pop , at the moment for example its Wang Chung lol n love new wave which is artista like Overseer, Chrystal Method, Prodigy, Fluke
most recent album i got was by a group called Hurts
i love movies n tv series, dont get to the movies much but love home cinema n have a good setup, a media player with about 200 movies stored on it n lots of series too
dont read much as alot of stuff at work is on the computer or in written format so when i get home i want to be visually entertained
xxx "

Hmm

Think your jumping to conclusions. From a POF point of view that is actually a pretty good, lengthy reply!

It's the emails with just "hi" in them that need to be avoided, as you know they are just hitting everyone.

Good luck!

rabbit54 · 11/10/2010 20:30

but he does sound boring

MrsCringeworthy · 11/10/2010 20:37

That is probably part of the problem, he comes across as a couch potato which is exactly the opposite of what I am looking for.

Also I LOATHE prodigy - they did that track 'smack my bitch up' vile.

Haha, nothing wrong with Chrystal Method, Prodigy, Fluke, mind you going on about 200 films stored on a media player makes him sound like a bit of a geek/nurd, and that comes from someone running a DLNA compliant Upnp Media Server on their Linux machine at home Wink.

Niceguy2 · 11/10/2010 20:58

It depends on how you read things.

Yes, he doesn't sound like the type to be climbing Ben Nevis or skydiving at the weekend.

BUT he has a good home cinema set up which to me suggests he probably has a decent steady job. He has movies & series stored on it which suggests he's intelligent enough to use the Internet properly.

Plus as a single parent, do you want someone who is always going to be out with his mates, off at weekends to the pub, club, cycling, hiking, mountaineering etc? Yes that makes a more exciting man but to be brutally honest a guy like that wouldn't be interested in a single parent who has to stay at home and plan in advance due to childcare etc.

Oh and as Please suggests, as POF goes thats a pretty good reply and at least he can spell and it isn't littered with txt spk and he hasn't asked for a shag yet.

In short, I think its a bit quick to write him off.

'DLNA compliant Upnp Media Server on their Linux machine'

'cycling, hiking, mountaineering etc? Yes that makes a more exciting man'

This describes my ex and we did these things together... Sad But you have a point and he is now my ex for a reason.

Plus Mr Home Cinema has redeemed himself by sending a chatty message now.

OP i have joined match recently and have exchanged messages with a few people.

the fact that you are unsure about the message or whatthis man is trying to say about himself, for me, would mean i wouldn't take it any further.

that may sound harsh but i firmly believe in trusting my first reaction and my gut instinct. you are already trying to work this man out from one message, i think you would spend any further time on this man doing teh same. for me the click has to be tehre from teh start.

booooooooooyhoo · 11/10/2010 21:22

can someone please tell me what POF is btw?

whiteandnerdy · 11/10/2010 21:24

MrsCringeworthy ... you may not of understood me but I was talking technology

MrsCringeworthy · 11/10/2010 21:29

Plenty of Fish.

I know what you mean, I have been of that opinion in the past but I have mellowed and tend to think you have give people a chance especially when text on the screen is the only form of communication.

I used to be a bit of a 'one strike and you are out' type but that was when I was hurt and defensive. I'm a little less prickly now I think.

I am however unsure and a bit confused by it all. Confused (and I still don't want to get hurt)

thank you.

i can understand that, at the moment i am comfortable with not giving people a chance if the click isn't there but i have only been using match for about 2 months now so i may soften up a bit with time Grin

suburbophobe · 11/10/2010 22:16

Well, maybe all he wants to do is watch films, but at least he's not out clubbing and drugging or in the pub every night!

Or maybe he's trying to impress you with all that (tech) info!

Just take it as it comes, just get to know him a bit longer, and go with your instincts!

Good luck!

MrsCringeworthy · 11/10/2010 22:24

I've been single for about 4 years now and put my profile on this weekend.

I have dabbled on POF during that time and even went on a date once but was just not ready for it - like I say, too prickly.

We all have our own criteria, if it feels right then it is right for you.

I'm just not completely confident with my judgement yet so will probably be asking MN a lot. Hmm

'going on about 200 films stored on a media player makes him sound like a bit of a geek/nurd, and that comes from someone running a DLNA compliant Upnp Media Server on their Linux machine at home'

I actually know what that means Hmm
