possibly bonkers but thoughts on changing my surname to the same as the DC to make it easier at school?.....

The DC's have XP's surname.

I know that I cannot just change their name willy nilly, and wouldn't want to do anything illegal.

XP does not see the children and has been abusive and threatening in the past and would never allow me to change their surnames to my surname.

But someone mentioned on here the other day that there's always the option of the mum changing her surname by deed poll to the same as the children.

Will it make me look bonkers if I do it? . We are such a small family that I have an urge to make our little unit more 'tight knit'. I have no desire to have the same name as XP, but want to make it more straight forward when the DC's start school or for passports / foreign holidays.

Any thoughts would be helpful. Even to tell me I am deranged.

Well I wouldn't do it but I don't like the idea of taking someone else's name full stop

Its not unusual for children to have a different surname to their parents and schools usually learn who belongs to who quite quickly.

That said I'm pretty sure that when I put the DCs names down for school places there was a space to put down the name by which they were known if different to their official name - maybe you could do that so that they have your name?

I know it's pretty normal these days. I think it makes them seem more vulnerable to not obviously be mine IYSWIM.

I might speak to the school and check how to they manage it.

I think it's a nice idea.
