Any recommendation for a London afternoon tea venue (pretty Central) for a special occasion with a friend? Preferably with a nice/interesting view? Thanks from a country bumpkin who is not that familiar with London 😁

Duck and Waffle! Gorgeous food and you'll definitely get a fantastic view 40 stories up!

I was also going to suggest Duck and Waffle! Another one I loved was at The Savoy.

The National Gallery and you can book online

To @Chocolatealmonds

Oblix at The Shard - and reasonably priced too!

I took DD for an afternoon tea cruise down the river Thames last year ( it was the weekend before her wedding so wanted to do something special, just me and her),with City Cruises. I paid extra for a window seat and a glass of prosecco each and the food was plentiful and absolutely delicious. It leaves from the Tower of London and lasts for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

I’ve also been to Fortnum and Mason at the Royal Exchange, it’s a bit cheaper than at F&M itself and was lovely - no refills on the food which you get at the store. Have a look on YouTube - there’s lots of recent videos with reviews.

I took. My Aunt and Uncle on the tea bus tour and they loved it. You get to see a lot too.

The best afternoon tea I’ve ever had was at the Montcalm, just off Marble Arch

Rocknrollstar · 09/07/2026 16:53

The Lanesborough is the best.

SummerInSun · 09/07/2026 18:04

second Fortnum & Masons. And it’s fun to look around the store afterwards too.

F&M is good. They basically keep bringing you food until you tell them to stop. Even my greedy dp was stuffed.

For a bit cheaper and much less touristy, the Montague on the Gardens in Bloomsbury.

Thank you everyone! Some great suggestions and I will let you know where we go in September.

The Dorchester is fab. Also The Ritz and The Dilly Hotel in Piccadilly.

I was sorely disappointed by atrocious service at Duck and Waffle. Makes me wonder why it gets recommended so much!

Another vote for Fortnum & Masons or The Dorchester.

The Goring is very nice :)

Chocolatealmonds · 05/08/2026 22:32

Well we have both had a rough year, it’s a biggish birthday for us both and we are celebrating our 54th year of friendship, so decided to treat us to Fortnum and Masons! Very much looking forward to it. Thanks for all that great advice.

Lovely!

The Berkely is my absolute favourite place to have afternoon tea.
