Hi, I can’t seem to work this out online so would be grateful if anyone could help with the best way to get from Blackfriars to Gatwick for 6am on a Sunday?

Thameslink?

BillieWiper · 25/03/2026 13:24

If Gatwick express doesn't stop there then you'd be better off going from Blackfriars to Farringdon or LB then getting fast Gatwick train from there.

The Citymapper app works well for this sort of question..

You can select quickest / fewest changes/ least walking etc

You simply need a Thameslink train from Blackfriars’s. We do it all the time.

It’s a bit more effort to get to Gatwick at 6am on a Sunday..

Have you also tried gong from London Bridge, tons of trains, not sure if this would be harder or easier ?

No advantage of going to Farringdon over Blackfriars - the trains from Farringdon all stop at Blackfriars anyway.

At that time in the morning OP would probably be best trying to get to Victoria and then the train from there if there isn’t a direct train from Blackfriars. But check there’s no rail replacement bus.

Ak oh sorry I didn't know if they all did! I thought the Gatwick express skipped Blackfriars.

The Gatwick express doesn’t go to either Farringdon or Blackfriars. It uses the Victoria line. But Thameslink trains go from Blackfriars to Gatwick. Not sure if the 6am on Sunday will be problematic. I’ve never tried it that early.

Gatwick express is from Victoria.

Use the journey planner on the National Rail website > Journey Planner | Official Train Ticket Info | National Rail

At that time of the morning on a Sunday, the journey will probably require a change at Victoria as the direct Thameslink trains do not run that early.

Journey Planner | Official Train Ticket Info | National Rail

Plan your journey and buy train tickets for all rail links with our national Journey Planner. Check departure times and prices.

I’ve got that train at 3am before it runs through the night, not sure about Sunday though.

Sorry I meant the fast Gatwick train. I call it the express but yeah I know the actual express is from Vic. I think the Blackfriars fast one only takes like 35 mins though.

Are you looking for this weekend? Theres an amended timetable in place on the Thameslink Gatwick branch on Sunday, also affecting London Bridge / East Croydon, which might be why you are having trouble. If you can get to Victoria, you'll probably have more options.
