Winter wonderland

Is winter wonderland worth it? Despite living in London I’ve never been. Was thinking of taking the kids this year but is it just a big fun fair? Or is there more to do, my kids aren’t overly keen on rides and we’ve been to quite a lot of fun fairs (they don’t mind them but aren’t massive fans)

I liked it the first few years, but then it got too big IMO. I find it so overcrowded, it's horrendous and not enjoyable.

It's mostly a funfair yes. There's food and a Christmas market but honestly you'd be better going almost anywhere else, it's so wildly overpriced it's offensive.

PersephonePomegranate · 30/12/2025 11:13

It's very much about the rides, funfair type games (with huge teddies) and boozing.

FollowSpot · 30/12/2025 11:14

I would avoid.

Rammed, lots of adults drinking, wildly overpriced food and drink, the best bits are funfair attractions

Battersea Power Station is beautifully lit and festive.

I feel like it’s one of those things you should do at least once? Are they missing out having never been? Have most people taken their kids if they live in London?

You're not missing anything, it's all about photos for SM.

It’s a cross between a big expensive funfair and hell on earth (especially in the evenings). The only time I’ve found it quite nice was strolling through after a Sunday lunch in Knightsbridge (with some friends who were new to London) and it was surprisingly pleasant (and quiet).

I live in London and went to it the first year it opened and thought it was pretty good then. But at the time it was unique. I took my father (who was visiting) and he loved it and we had to go back every year after that. It became more and more commercial, and more like a huge funfair and the crowds got silly (and the prices sillier) and now I avoid it like the plague.

Read the Trip advisor reviews, gar too many bad ones.

AgapanthusPink · 30/12/2025 11:32

Have you not read the newspapers over the last couple of weeks? At least three big brawls that resulted in it making national newspapers. Sounds absolutely horrendous and not something I would aspire to taking children to or myself for that matter.

shivermetimbers77 · 30/12/2025 11:36

It’s eye wateringly expensive. I went once about 15 years ago and one ride was £11, dread to think what they cost now.

BossManPizza · 30/12/2025 12:08

I’m guessing any fights are later in the evening? We would go early. They wouldn’t want to go on many rides they don’t mind them but aren’t overly bothered that’s why I wondered if there was more there to do. Feel like I have to take them for the experience.

Take them then, if you're not on a budget and want to go,take them 😊

Littletreefrog · 30/12/2025 16:13

Take them for opening time, it's pretty quiet and then you will know for yourself what it's like and wether its something you would want to do again.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 30/12/2025 16:17

No it’s shit.

EmpressaurusKitty · 30/12/2025 16:41

The one time I went, everyone in the group except me bought hot chocolate from the same stall. Everyone except me got food poisoning.

How do you get food poisoning from hot chocolate? If milk is off you would spit it out immediately, wouldn't you? Grim, bet you're glad you gave that a miss 🤮

No idea - all I know is that it’s the one thing they all had & I didn’t!
