My Friends child age 8 was in Wandsworth park 4.30/5pm and a boy roughly 11 years old almost twice his height engaged him in a game of playing Police officers in the bushes but then kicked him and punched him repeatedly. Did anyone see this happen? The Police won’t do anything about it unless they have another witness. Thank you.

If they were alone in the bushes is it likely that anyone else did see them?

Awful thing to happen but Wandsworth ranks among the top 20 most dangerous boroughs in London, with a crime rate of 110 crimes per 1,000 people in 2023. This is 5% higher than the overall crime rate in London, which sits at 105 crimes per 1,000 people.

Why was an 8 year old in that area not supervised?

There are only 32 boroughs in London.

What a ridiculous comment. There are 32 boroughs; the likes of K&C, Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham are all top 5. Wandsworth Park is a little park by the river, barely 2 acres at most.

@Jibbertynot s ridiculous when you read the report that I got the information from -

Please can we not victim blame? This is an 8 year old child and it’s likely his parents were in the vicinity - possibly at the playground or watching other children.

@afriendhelpingafriend - I would try NextDoor or Facebook for information. Everyone will be local and understand the park, unlike Mumsnet which just doesn’t “get” cities.

It really is. There are plenty more ‘dangerous’ boroughs in London, and you’re more likely to have your car nicked than be assaulted. It’s not even top 15 fgs. There are far worse places. Do you even know Wandsworth Park? I’d feel safer there than walking around Richmond Park (and I feel perfectly safe there too).

Presume you've tried local facebook pages but if someone didn't involve themselves at the time, it's unlikely they will after the fact.

Hope the little one is ok

Jumping as someone in the borough. It depends on where you are in the borough. There are parts of the borough that have significantly more crime than others. Many parts are very calm and low crime. There are many rankings which put Wandsworth high up.

Yeah, I’ve lived in the Borough for 40 years. Like anywhere in the country, some areas are not so good.
