DH and I are taking DD and friend to London for her 15th birthday next weekend but am lacking inspiration for something special to do. She has suggested Chinatown for dinner but want an event to go in the day as otherwise we’ll be wandering around markets which we can do anytime. Ruled out theatre as the shows she wants to see (Mamma Mia, Devil wears Prada, Abba) are sold out or astronomical. Please help with some ideas!

Thames Rockets Boat Trip. It's amazing.

How about a citydays walking tour clue hunt? You have clues sent to your phones - takes a couple of hours. I’ve done a couple and they’re good.

Cartier exhibition at the V & A?

Cartier exho is sold out until June.

London is so full of things to do, so your biggest problem is lack of time - what are her interests? The main galleries in the V&A are free - teens might enjoy the fashion and theatre collections particularly.
Drama? Guided tour of Shakespeare's Globe theatre.
History? Tower of London, or any number of museums.
Sport? Guided tour of a football stadium, Wimbledon, or visit the Olympic Park.

Walk along the South Bank from Westminster to Borough Market - so much to see on that route. Call in at Tate Modern en route.
Get her to do the research, so you know it's something that she really wants to do.

I second the Thames rockets, or you could climb the O2?

sicilianpizza · 13/04/2025 20:03

These are all great suggestions thanks. Her interests are shopping, music and food, not very cultural! 🙈

I agree with Thames Rockets. I know other people will be horrified but we did one of DD’s teen birthdays at Madame Tussaud’s. It was surprisingly brilliant, I highly recommend it although the location isn’t quite central

Is Mean girls musical not on anymore?

Yes, it is.

Yes, it is.

I really recommend it, it makes great birthday outing for a teen.

These's quite a few cheaper seats left for mean girls on Saturday night - I would probs do that and have a nice dinner before

Hayley1256 · 13/04/2025 21:42

As they are 15 I would probably let them go to the theatre by themselves (take them there and pick them up after). You could then hang around near the theatre during the show - it would reduce the overall price of going

Twist Museum - optical illusions, good for social media photo's.
The Tower Bridge Experience - bit of a scream fest but I took a group of teens who loved it.
