Hi,
I am booked to see an exhibition tomorrow for a few hours near the Strand. Therefore I have a few further hours to fill. I am on my own. Looking for somewhere to eat, browse, explore. Does anyone have any recommendations of great places to try around central London? Usually I have kids with me so looking for some me time! I'm a vegetarian, like pizza, pasta, Thai etc... TIA

Covent Garden would be the obvious choice round there, and it should be fairly civilised mid week. Or if you're happy to go further Spitalfields had nice shops and the market to poke around in, and loads of food options.

A wonder around Covent Garden and a walk down Fleet Street to St Brides church. I found it really interesting to have a wander around the journalist church. So much history attached to it. Whatever you do, have a wonderful day.

The Port House along the strand is nice. L’Ulivo is a nice Italian along the strand or down the side of Charing Cross station.

Have a look inside St Martin in the Fields Church then downstairs to the cafe and gift shop. Then as PPs said on to Covent Garden, lovely market and absolutely loads of restaurants to choose from.

Loads of lovely things around Somerset House and Covent Garden:

  • You can walk through Middle Temple Gardens and have a noodle around Temple Church (built by the Knights Templar!)
  • Some of my fave places to eat in Covent Garden: Sagar (Indian), Eat Tokyo (Japanese), Bancone (Pasta), Xi'an BiangBiang Noodles (Chinese noodles),
  • Champagne & Fromage is lovely to drop into if you want a cheeky glass of fizz :)
- The Delauney has a coffee shop next to its main restaurant which is also lovely.
