Taylor swift concert worries

So my 12yr old was due to go to one of the concerts at Wembley next week with my 30 year old step daughter. I’d really rather they didnt didn’t go due to all the unrest in the uk and the recent Austria events. I’ve tried to explain this to her and she is now very upset and still g I am running her life. Such a difficult situation as a mum. And advice would be helpful.

OP posts:

I don't envy you being in this position, as a mum to a 12 yr old DD myself I would hate to be in your position.
I don't want to raise my children in fear though and I would be certain that if there was a credible threat the concert would be cancelled however you know what level of risk you are comfortable with.
This will feel like a major blow to your DD so I think it's understandable that she is struggling with this decision and to a 12 yr old it probably does feel like her life is ruined however she will get over it. It's a really tough one OP

Mojinka · 10/08/2024 23:21

I wouldn't send her either op.. Can she be "bribed" something else she wanted arranged for that evening? Taylor Swift party at home?

Putting · 10/08/2024 23:24

I’d let her go, assuming you trust your stepdaughter to be responsible.

The level of security is likely to be incredibly high.

Greentreesandbushes · 10/08/2024 23:25

I have tickets, am too very worried

ThePassageOfTime · 10/08/2024 23:29

The concerts are likely to be even safer now, with raises security

Bearpawk · 10/08/2024 23:30

I don't think the national front are going to be at a Taylor swift concert, the price of those bloody tickets
I'd let her go and have a fab time

Taylorontour · 10/08/2024 23:31

To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if they get cancelled by Taylor herself - or maybe even postponed. What was planned in Vienna was horrific - and I think will have made her anxious, no matter how good security will be. You may find the decision is taken out of your hands OP (although I hope not for the sake of all her fans).

You are joking?

asbestosmouth24 · 10/08/2024 23:35

I'm sure security will be ramped up for these concerts and all will be fine although I do understand your anxiety over it. I'm sure they will be fine to go, I'd let them go.

Octarion · 10/08/2024 23:36

I wouldn’t risk it either OP. Too dangerous.

There's been very little fascist unrest in London OP. I really wouldn't worry about that.
The terror threat re. Austria is scary but there is every chance that the London concerts will go ahead without incident and sometimes you have to take chances to get the most out of life. You're still far, far more likely to be injured in a car accident on the way there. Put your worries in proportion and don't make a little girl miss out on the memories of a lifetime because of your rather unfounded fears.

And this is just how terrorists win. Life has to go on.

Fair enough. Let other people kids go to it then. Mine wouldn’t be going.

Username1234321 · 10/08/2024 23:46

I had tickets but sold them a few months back because I couldn't stop worrying that a repeat of the Ariana Grande concert would happen. Chances are it won't but the worry got too much for me. Not sure how you handle this one it's a very difficult position to be in. How does your step daughter feel?

Mum2GirlSs · 10/08/2024 23:49

I have tickets - I'm taking my 12 year old daughter.

If there was any doubt around them I think Taylor would have cancelled / will cancel but I doubt that will happen.

The riots aren't near Wembley & there hasn't been any news of credible threats for Wembley.

There has been more security and protocols upped due to Vienna so if anything I feel safer going now than before it all happened - but I wasn't feeling unsafe before.

Well, that’s your decision, but doesn’t change the fact that risk and danger can be present in everything we do. It would be a shame if we gave in to fears of what ‘might’ happen, no matter how unlikely, as that’s no way to live.

TeenLifeMum · 10/08/2024 23:52

Uk venues are going to be on high alert. I feel safe and will be taking my 3dds but I will be hyper vigilant. I won’t let terrorist make me a prisoner in my own country. If police deem it safe then I’ll be going.

JollyHostess101 · 10/08/2024 23:57

I saw Billy Joel 5 days after the Paris attack on a concert….. while we were flying to NY from Vegas NY was named a potential threat- not going to lie I freaked out and didn’t want to go and wanted to get on the next flight home!

I did go and had a fabulous time- there was loads of extra security just ask your Step Daughter not to drink and keep her wits about her!

We shouldn’t have to live in fear but it’ll always be in the back of our minds in the world we live in!

I’m not going to say whether OP should allow her daughter to go or not, but a 12 year old who has been looking forward to the most hyped concert of the year won’t be able to bribed with a Taylor Swift party at home. She could have that any other day. She will likely be devastated not to be allowed to go and if the concerts go without any security events, the daughter may well resent her mother for stopping her going with a few days notice. Going to the Eras tour is something which she will never have the opportunity to do again and it’s irreplaceable. If the OP feels the security concerns outweigh the benefits to her daughter to go, then the daughter won’t go, but I wouldn’t expect her to be happy about it. She’ll have been hyped for months. Personally if I had tickets, I’d be more nervous, but would still attend. But I wouldn’t make that decision on anyone else’s behalf.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/08/2024 00:01

What next, op? You won't allow her to go to the shops, to a cinema, to school? Bad things perpetrated by bad people can, and do, happen everywhere, always have. It's part and parcel of living on this planet. After what was uncovered, a Taylor Swift concert is probably one of the safer places to go to. The security is going to be extreme.

A Taylor Swift party really isn't going to "bribe" a 12 year old TS fan who has presumably been waiting a while to see her. I don't even like her brand or music but I can understand a child being devastated because they are suddenly told that they can't go.

Op, let her go. Security will be really tight, i should think.

PullTheBricksDown · 11/08/2024 00:08

I can see why it's a worry but you'd never let her out of the house at all if you tried to keep her away from every threat. This will be the safest time to go to a gig with heightened security. She's at more risk every time she crosses a road.
